Yes, provided the point is protected. Choose a setting with a V-shaped claw or a bezel over the tip, which is the only vulnerable part of the stone. For a ring worn every day, 14kt gold is harder and more scratch-resistant than 18kt.

Almost all do. A faint bow-tie shadow across the widest part of the stone is normal in pear, oval and marquise diamonds. A heavy one that stays dark from every angle is a cutting fault. It is not recorded on the certificate, so check the product video or view the ring in a showroom.

A plain pear solitaire costs less than a halo or toi et moi design at the same carat weight.
