A 1 carat round brilliant measures about 6.5 mm across and weighs 0.2 gram. Carat measures weight, not size, so an oval, pear or marquise of 1 carat looks larger than a round, while a princess or cushion cut looks slightly smaller.

The price depends on the shape of the diamond, the gold purity (14kt or 18kt) and how much gold the setting uses; a plain solitaire band costs less than a halo or cathedral design. Prices are recalculated daily against the prevailing gold rate, so the product page always shows the current figure.

Marquise looks largest, followed by pear and oval, because elongated shapes spread their weight over a bigger face-up area. Round sits in the middle. Princess and cushion cuts carry more weight in depth and look slightly smaller across.
