Yes. At the same carat weight a marquise is longer than a round, oval or pear diamond and covers the most finger. It is the most effective shape for making a stone look large for its weight.

About 2.00 is the classic proportion, and most marquise diamonds fall between 1.75 and 2.15. Lower ratios look fuller; higher ratios look slimmer and more dramatic. Divide length by width on the certificate to find it.

The two points are the most exposed parts of the stone. A V-shaped claw or a bezel at each end protects them. In earrings, bangles and cluster designs the points are usually enclosed by the surrounding metal, so the risk is low.

The marquise outline is close to the shape of a petal or leaf. Several marquise diamonds arranged around a round centre form a flower, and set in a line they form a vine, which is why the shape appears so often in earrings, bangles and cluster rings.

It depends on the piece. A ring with a single marquise centre stone is priced mainly on carat weight, while earrings and bangles with many small marquise diamonds are priced on total diamond weight and gold weight. Prices are recalculated daily against the prevailing gold rate, so the product page always shows the current figure.
