Indian bangle sizes are written as 2.2, 2.4, 2.6, 2.8, 2.10 and 2.12. These follow the traditional Anna system: the first number is 2 inches, and the second adds sixteenths of an inch. Size 2.6 means 2 + 6/16 inches, which is 2.375 inches or roughly 60.3mm of inner diameter. The most common adult women's sizes in India are 2.4 and 2.6.
That is also why sizes run 2.8 then 2.10 rather than 2.9 — the second number counts sixteenths, not tenths.

Method 1: measure a bangle you already own
This is the most accurate method. Lay a bangle that fits you well on a flat surface, take a ruler, and measure straight across the inside of the circle through its centre — the inner diameter, not the outer edge. Match that measurement to the chart above. If your bangle measures 60mm across the inside, you are a size 2.6.
Method 2: measure your hand
Bring your thumb across to touch your little finger, as though slipping a bangle on. Wrap a tape measure, string or strip of paper around the widest part of that closed hand, usually across the knuckles at the base of the thumb. Either match that circumference to the chart, or divide it by 3.14 to get the diameter you need. A hand measuring 18.9cm around needs a 6.03cm diameter, which is size 2.6.
Why you measure the hand, not the wrist
A bangle is a closed circle. It does not open, so it has to pass over your knuckles before it can reach your wrist. Measuring the wrist is the single most common sizing error and produces a bangle that will not go on at all. This is the opposite of a bracelet, which has a clasp and is sized to the wrist itself.
How do bangle and bracelet sizing differ?
A bracelet opens at a clasp and sits on the wrist, so it is measured around the wrist and given roughly a quarter to half an inch of extra length so it moves without sliding over the hand. A bangle is rigid and measured across the hand. The two numbers are not interchangeable — someone with a 16cm wrist may need a 19cm bangle circumference.
To size a bracelet, wrap a tape around your wrist just below the wrist bone and add 1.5 to 2cm. For a tennis bracelet, err on the shorter side: too loose and the diamond line rolls over and shows its underside.
How is a kada sized?
Most kadas open and clasp around the wrist rather than sliding over the hand, so they are sized closer to the wrist than the knuckles. As a rule a kada runs one to two sizes smaller than a bangle for the same person. If you are a 2.6 in bangles you are likely a 2.4 in a hinged kada — but check the product page, since fully rigid kadas size like bangles.
Indian sizes and international sizes
International brands usually quote inner circumference in millimetres or use S/M/L, while Indian sizing uses inner diameter. To convert, multiply the Indian diameter by 3.14.

Common mistakes
- Measuring the wrist instead of the hand. A bangle has to clear the knuckles first.
- Measuring the wrong hand. Your dominant hand is usually slightly larger. Measure the one you will wear it on.
- Not sizing up for heavy pieces. Thick bridal kadas and wide diamond bangles occupy more volume and feel tighter than slim designs.
- Measuring in the morning. Hands swell through the day and in warm weather. Measure in the evening.
What if you are between two sizes?
Take the larger one. The gap between 2.4 and 2.6 is only about 3mm of diameter, but that is the difference between a bangle that slides on and one that needs soap and water to come off. If you are buying as a gift and cannot measure, 2.6 is the safest single choice for an adult woman in India.
